Sprinkle a bit of baking soda to clean stubborn sticks on the stovetop, counter, sink and oven.
Prevention is the best key for not clogging the drain- keep a stainless steel filter over the drain. Sink garbage disposals aren't environmentally friendly (for waste water), so compost instead.
And when there is a bit of a clog, first try something like a toilet plunger. Then throw a bit of baking soda down the drain, followed by vinegar (fun chemical reaction) and after 15 minutes, a gallon of boiling water.
Since I once had a fly problem, and occasional fruit flies, I wipe down my countertops with vinegar once a week. (The smell is gone once it dries.)
Sorry I'm a bit "tip obsessive", but that's why I love your blog!

Vinegar idea is great. We get the occasional fruit fly, so good to know, good to know.
Cheers!

Those are such great ideas! (I put everything possible into the dishwasher, of course.) And I love to clean with vinegar - I wipe down all the bathroom walls with it.
As for canning ... it scares me some, too, but so far so good with the sauces and jellies! My mom says it's simple: Smell it. Does it smell bad? Rancid? Don't eat it!
Ha.

This is a terrific list! You may have seen this kitchen hack list at MDA: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/handy-kitchen-tips/ Another little tip I like: drop leftover lemon/lime/orange wedges in the garbage disposal instead of chucking them in your compost. (Obviously within reason so you don't break it.) This helps clean it naturally and make the disposal smell nice! :)
